Isaiah 30:15 NIV This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it.”
- God’s people, the Israelites, were in big trouble. They had been worshipping other gods and adopting the pagan practices of the neighboring nations for quite some time. God sent prophets to warn the people what would happen if they continued worshipping idols and disobeying God, but the people would not listen. Sometimes the prophets were punished or killed because their message of repentance was not welcome.
- Repenting is turning away from myself and returning to God.
- Resting is peaceful trust that God has everything under control and will give me whatever I need. I lay down my will and ask God what He wants me to do.
- This is where salvation is found. Isaiah was telling the Israelites to turn away from their tendency to bow down to false gods.
- “But you would have none of it.” The Israelites were stubborn people, often described in the Bible as “stiff-necked.”
- Who? Me? I am no different from the Israelites. I often bowed down at the altar of self-sufficiency, refusing to ask for God’s help until I had tried my own way and failed. God put me in a wonderful community of friends and family, but I refused to ask them for help because I am afraid of looking weak.
- From this I need to repent.
- One More Step: Today I will turn to God for rest and strength. If I have turned to sources other than God, I will turn back and ask God to forgive me. I will thank God for His gifts of salvation, rest, and strength. I will call a friend and ask for prayer. I will pray for my friends, my family, and my country. I will thank God for being my salvation and my strength.

I love the practical step. Appropriate for everyone.
Thank you Rebecca. The busier I get, the more I need to remember this!
